Terms of service
This is a template
Flashlights ships no policy of its own: policies are the event's, and the
instance links to them through TERMS_URL. Copy this page to your
event's site, replace the bracketed placeholders and add whatever your
organisation's own policies require.
Thank you for using [Portal].
[Portal] is run by [Organisation] for the people who make [Event] happen: volunteers, speakers, sponsors and organisers. By creating an account you agree to these terms, to the acceptable use policy and to [Event]'s Code of Conduct.
Your account
You are responsible for what is done with your account. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; a one-time code emailed to you is yours alone. Tell us at [contact address] if you believe your account has been used by someone else.
Your information
We keep the information you give us (your profile, your application, your proposal, the files you upload) to run [Event], and we share it only with the organisers who need it for that. Sponsors are recorded by the organisers and are not shown your details. You can ask us at [contact address] to see or remove what we hold about you.
[Portal] serves every page itself. It runs no analytics or advertising,
sets no third-party cookies, and loads no scripts or fonts from other
companies, so using it tells no one else what you do there. [If uploads are
kept with a storage provider: photos and logos people upload are shown
from [storage provider], so your browser fetches those images from it.]
Your information leaves [Portal] only through the services that run it:
[email provider] sends its emails and [storage provider] keeps the files
you upload. [If the instance reports errors to Sentry: errors are reported
to Sentry, without your details.] [If SENTRY_SEND_DEFAULT_PII is on:
errors are reported to Sentry with your account details and IP address.]
Our side
[Organisation] may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms or the acceptable use policy, and may change these terms; we announce changes on [Portal] and by email to active accounts.
[Organisation]'s wider policies, where it has them, apply as well: [link to policies].
